How’d they shoot that?

Night Lightning Photography

Photographing lightning can be very hard! Try using a f-stop of 4-5 and set the shutter to 5-10 seconds. This will allow for minimal light to make a mark and allow for the time frame needed to capture lightning while it comes and goes!

Streaking Photgraphy

And no, I do not mean photographing nude people running down the street, even if this technique would work.

Feel free to expand your talents and try placing your camera in your car by use of tripod or other stabilizing device and set a long exposure to capture wonderful streaks of light out windows.    You may also swing or slide a camera with your hands to cause a stationary object or light to streak.  When using your hands though, you must be extremely stable or else there may be “vibrations”  throughout your streaks.

This technique also works for capturing moving objects at night, such as aircraft or cars on highways.   Set your camera on a tripod and your desired exposure, the longer the better, to capture movement on a highway at night, or the landing pattern of aircraft at a nearby airport. Below are some more examples!
